R is only taking one Kytril and two Ativan a day now. When he was on the prochlorperazine he was taking eight Ativan a day. It seems like he’s almost off drugs now. :) Hm. Ok, so he’s also still getting warfarin (for the clot), magnesium, vancomycin (to ward off a return of the C Diff), and gabapentin (for the neuropathy) but those are maintenance drugs that can’t be weaned between weeks. Even with all that, we feel free of drugs now that the bad one’s gone.
How high is the dose of Gabapentin? I was given that for the nerve pain in my arms and neck last year. I have used it before for shingles but a smaller dose. This dose was 300 mg at night increasing to 3×300mgs a day. One pill at night keeps me stoned all day and I hate that. Ativan caused me to have memory loss. I hate pills. With all that you have had you must be happy just to get rid of one.
When we were first in the office in CT, I was taking some pretty heavy meds to allow me to stand the pain while I worked and I couldn’t keep my mind straight while trying to learn what I needed to do.
I just feel so much for you; going through all of this and admire your courage.
I love you R and J and Jim and I check this site regularly to see how you both are faring. I’m rooting for you both and so is he.
My memory’s never been that great, so Ativan might be causing memory loss in me, too. I certainly forget a lot these days. Fortunately I’m taking so much less of it now that the akathisia is gone.
As far as Gabapentin, I’m taking 300mg morning and night. The doctor said it makes people drowsy, but so far I haven’t felt any ill effects. It hasn’t had any positive effects yet either, though. Still got my (tingly) fingers crossed!
